Cancer

Our body is made up of many cells and many types of cells. Normally cells grow, divide and produce more cells. When cells divide and multiply without control they invade and destroys the tissues around them. This is the state which we call it as cancer.

Cancer cells are malignant cells and when they enter the blood stream or lymphatic system it becomes more serious. At this stage it is called metastasis. In matastatis, cancer spreads from original tumor to form new tumors in other parts of the body. Thus tumors can occur at any part of the body.

Here we should be clear that cancer does not develop in a day. It goes through series of steps like initiation, promotion and progression. Full fledged cancer takes a long time to happen, say twenty to thirty years. If one takes care of his diet, there is no reason why one should develop any cancer. Have abundant vegetables and fruits in place of cooked and junk food.

Breast Cancer

Many generally think breast cancer is likely to affect only females. It is not right. It can also strike males. Four out of every hundred suffering from breast cancer are seen to be men. In their case, removal of their testes is also done. As in females, the tumor can be felt as a lump in the chest of the males. In the females, the tumor is not so deadly because it is on the breast tissues which can be removed. But in males, there is no breast tissue and therefore the cancer eats into the chest muscle and reaches the lung, liver and bone very fast. Therefore breast cancer in males is more deadly than in females. In men it is due to harmonal imbalance and since his testes is the store house of harmones, it needs to be removed. To avoid all these, like the advice given to women, men also should examine themselves once a month in front of the mirror and look out for any lumps under or around the nipple, on the chest, under the armpit or for any discharge or blood from the nipple. They should be more concerned about any lumps which do not cause any pain. Painful lumps could be harmless inflammations, but the painless ones could be malignant tumours.

Though the causes of breast cancer have not been fully understood, many researchers have come out with certain risk factors. One of the reasons is urban life style that the modern day women adopt. They marry late and have their first child very late in life or even have no children. This appears to cause breast cancer. Obesity and lack of exercise are also said to be the causes. Towards a healthy life, the say that women need to have their first child between 20 to 28 years, breast feed the child and avoid gaining weight and do regular exercise. They should also avoid unhealthy food habits and stress. They should also do a regular breast self examination a week after the beginning of each menstrual cycle. And if the periods have stopped, carry out the test at the beginning of each month and catch the disease in an early stage to improve the chances of cure.

Home Medicines

Tomatoes in general are identified to be useful in cancer. The nutrient, lycopene appears to decrease the tumor size and makes the cancer less aggressive. The important point is that the lycopene has also the preventive value and thus prevents cancer.
